Vaping is something that we have all become aware of, but if you are new to it, and have found yourself disappointed with your initial experience, don’t go back to cigarettes just yet! If you are trying to give up cigarettes, vaping is not the same thing, but when you use it correctly, it can deliver the same hit that many smokers desire. This is why it’s important to know how to vape properly. Let’s show you how to vape and get the most out of your experience.
How Does a Vape Work?
Vapes work with a battery source, commonly known as a vape mod, that powers the coil, vaporizing e-juice in what is called an atomizer. You then inhale the vapour through a small mouthpiece. The vape is the culmination of all the components. Many people start mixing and matching different parts, but for beginners, the best approach is to purchase one of the prepackaged kits so you have everything in one place.
How to Use a Vape
Starting out is about learning how to use your vape. You can purchase a number of vape kits to give you the essentials to get started. You can purchase two different types of vapes, pod vapes, which are great for people trying to quit smoking, and all-in-one vapes, which requires you to add your chosen e-liquid and give the coil time to saturate before you inhale.
Choosing the right e-liquid all depends on personal preference. Usually, you can choose between propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerine (VG). PG liquids have a stronger flavour, but VG gives you greater vapour. Deciding what is best for you is about experimenting and finding the right ratio.
Do You Need to Inhale a Vape?
Common knowledge states that you would need to inhale an e-cigarette. However, this is not necessary. It all depends on what you are used to. For example, people that chew tobacco can absorb the tobacco through the tissue in their mouth. If you are an ex-smoker or trying to give up, you may prefer to inhale as it feels more natural. But it’s important to remember that when using a vapour you can absorb the same amount of nicotine whether you decide to inhale or not.
When you decide to inhale, you may wonder if short drags or long drags are better. When you compare this to a cigarette, short drags are more effective because they give you a nice hit. However e-cigarettes need a liquid to evaporate, therefore a short drag does not allow the liquid to come across the heating element properly, which could leave you feeling very unsatisfied. The best approach is to take a longer and slower drag. This gives you a far more enjoyable experience, and you won’t run the risk of inhaling or ingesting any excess liquid.
How Do You Inhale a Vape?
Vaping for the first time is not just about taking in some of the vapour, but the way you inhale can be a deal-breaker. If you inhale incorrectly, you could experience an unpleasant rush of nicotine or have a coughing fit. There are two different types of inhalation techniques, mouth to lung (MTL), and direct to lung (DTL).
Mouth to Lung
MTL well works best in smaller vapes that have higher resistance coils. When you take a drag, it should feel like you are sucking air through a coffee straw. It should feel tight. Drawing in in this manner makes low vapour and should feel like smoking, providing a similar type of hit to the throat. The way to do it is through the following steps:
1. Draw the vapour into your mouth for a few seconds.
2. Hold the vapour in your mouth with it closed for a second.
3. Breathe in the vapour to your lungs while opening your mouth.
4. Exhale after the vapour is in the lungs.
This is an approach that many people use as a starting point because it is similar to smoking.
Direct to Lung
Commonly abbreviated to DTL, this is best for larger vapes that use lower nicotine. Think of it as sucking air through a milkshake straw, and as it has more vapour, it’s like taking in more than you would a cigarette. However, it feels smoother because of the nicotine level. The way you do it is by the following:
1. Draw the vapour into the lungs quickly.
2. Exhale the vapour immediately.
If you do not know which is best for your vape, you should look at the nicotine content. If you have higher nicotine content, mouth to lung is usually the best approach, and for lower nicotine, direct to lung works best.
How Do I Vape Properly?
You may wonder if there is a right way or a wrong way. However, when you start out, there is no right or wrong way to vape. The best thing to do is to avoid taking any short drags. When you are heading on your vaping journey, you may experiment with different flavours, liquids, as well as different voltages and wattages of e-cigarette. Everybody will have their own preferred approach in how they vape, much like people who inhale cigarettes in certain ways. Ultimately, it’s up to you how you do it. Everybody has their own preferred approach, and the best way to make the most of it is to take your time and experiment.
Should I Start Vaping?
It all depends on your personal circumstances. Vaping has helped people overcome addictions to cigarettes. But if you want to start vaping or not, it is your personal choice. It has made a big difference to many people’s lives when they have been trying to give up smoking because of the nicotine strength of e-cigarettes, combined with the lack of chemicals. As cigarettes contain a vast number of harmful chemicals vaping is an excellent alternative. For people who want to start vaping, it is a thoroughly personal choice. When the only alternative to vaping is smoking, vaping is a far less harmful practice.
